Punjab Adarsh Schools teachers to get over 120% salary hike

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has approved a salary hike of more than 120% for around 1,100 teachers working in Adarsh Schools across the state. Their monthly salary, which has remained around Rs 10,000, will now increase to more than Rs 22,000, according to an official release.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Mann with a delegation of Adarsh School teachers. Along with the Punjab school teacher salary increase, they will also be provided facilities and improved service conditions on the lines of Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), the state government said.

Mann said, "Teachers are the backbone of our education system. For nearly two decades, these teachers have served with dedication despite receiving a meagre salary. Our government has decided to correct this long-standing injustice by increasing their salaries by more than 120 per cent."

The Punjab Adarsh School teachers' salary revision is expected to benefit around 1,100 teachers working in Punjab's CBSE-affiliated Adarsh Schools. More than 15,000 students are currently enrolled in these schools, according to the state government.

Mann said the government had accepted the legitimate demands of the teachers after years of what he described as neglect under previous governments. He said better working conditions for teachers would help strengthen the education system.

The chief minister said, "When teachers feel secure and respected, students receive better education. Our priority is to safeguard the interests of teachers so that the future of every child studying in these schools remains secure.”

The Punjab government said the move is aimed at providing teachers with fair compensation, dignity and better service conditions. Mann also reiterated that his government would continue to protect the interests of teachers and other sections of society.

The Adarsh Schools are affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and currently serve more than 15,000 students across Punjab.
