PwD fellowship document submission, verification process revised; HEIs directed to appoint nodal officers

NEW DELHI: The Department of empowerment of persons with disabilities has changed the procedure for submission and verification of documents under the National Fellowship for Person with Disabilities.

The new eligible candidates are required to send their documents to the respective university nodal officer who will verify the documents and then upload these to scholarship fellowship management postal, scholarship.canarabank.in. Earlier, candidates had to submit their documents at a Canara bank branch.

The department said the fellowship of existing candidates will be continued after verification of documents and marking of monthly continuation certificate by the nodal officers of respective university or institution.

Under this scheme, fellowship is made available to students with disabilities who are covered under 'The Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995. A person with disability, who wishes to avail the benefits under the Act has to obtain a disability certificate from the medical authority notified for the purpose.

Rs 25,000 per month for two year as JRF

Rs 28,000 per month for remaining tenure as SRF

Contingency (Humanities and Social Sciences including Arts/Fine Arts)

Rs 25,000 per month initial two year as JRF

Rs 20,500 per annum for remaining tenure (SRF)

Contingency (Science, Engineering and Technology

Rs 12,000 per annum initial two year (JRF)

Rs 25,000 per annum for remaining tenure (SRF)

Escorts/reader assistance

Rs 2,000 per month in case of candidates with physical and visual disabilities.
