Rajasthan Governor suspends Maharaja Surajmal Brij Univeristy VC for 'misuse of power'

Ramesh Chandra assumed the charge as vice chancellor of the university in 2023 for a period of three years from the date of assuming charge or till he attained the age of seventy years, whichever is earlier, as per the official notification.

NEW DELHI: Ramesh Chandra, vice chancellor of Maharaja Surajmal Brij University, Bharatpur has been suspended "with immediate effect" following an inquiry report submitted by the divisional commissioner of Bharatpur, which found evidence against him "for misusing his position".

Chandra assumed the charge as vice chancellor of the university in 2023 for a period of three years from the date of appointment or till he attained the age of seventy years, whichever is earlier, as per the official notification.

Divisional commissioner of Bharatpur has sent an investigation report found prima facie evidence against the vice chancellor. The inquiry committee was formed as per the direction of Haribhau Bagde, Rajasthan Governor and chancellor of the university, to look into allegations against Chandra for "granting affiliation to undeserving colleges, embezzling funds, introducing self-financing courses without prior approval among others, as per reports.

“For detailed investigation of various complaints received against Pre. Ramesh Chandra, Vice Chancellor, Maharaja Surajmal Brij University, Bharatpur, the investigation proceedings of the Inquiry Committee constituted under the chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner, Bharatpur by this Secretariat's order No. 1233-34 dated 07.03.2025 is under process,” the notification reads.

Herein, the Governor Bagde, has exercised his powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 11A of the act, 2012 of the university, and suspended Chandra from the post of vice chancellor with “immediate effect,” the notification concludes.
