JAIPUR: NSUI members on Friday staged a protest outside the Rajasthan University against a scheduled programme linked to the RSS on the campus. The protesters assembled outside the main gate of the university and attempted to jump the barricades to enter the campus, but were stopped by police.
Additional force was deployed in and outside the university to maintain law and order.
The student wing of the Congress agitated after people linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) were named for the event on women's empowerment, being organised by the Marudhara Nari Sangathan at the humanities auditorium on Friday afternoon.
Alleging that the event was linked to the ideology of the Sangh, NSUI leader Amardeep Parihar said, "The campus cannot be used for activities that promote a particular ideology. It is not conducive to an academic environment."
"The university is a centre of learning, and such events influence the atmosphere on campus," he claimed.
