RGNUL organises seminar on new challenges of human rights

A total of 141 papers were presented at the seminar organised by RGNUL in collaboration with ICSSR and Panjab University.

NEW DELHI: Centre for Advanced Studies in Human Rights, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab, organised a one-day national seminar on ‘New challenges and dimensions of human rights’. The seminar was held in collaboration with Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) North-Western Regional Centre, Panjab University and Manupatra.

Former acting chief justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court Sabina and former judge of Rajasthan and Punjab and Haryana High Court were the chief guests for the inaugural session. A total of 141 papers were presented by the participants from India and abroad in the conference.

Dilip Ukey, Vice-Chancellor (VC), Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai, was the guest of honour. Anand Pawar, officiating VC, RGNUL emphasised on enhancing access to justice, and promoting human rights and fundamental freedom for all in the welcome address.

Ukey deliberated on several issues, including United Nation Charter, UNHDR and protection of human rights. He also delved into history and development of human rights, importance of fundamental rights and the constitutional provisions on human rights and duties.

Sabina shared her insights on the legal protection of human rights and the relationship between rule of law and human rights. She emphasised on the use of law to work against poverty and to promote the interests of the marginalised sections of the society. The guest and faculty also inaugurated the brochure of RGNLU placement cell. RGNLU dean academics Naresh Kumar Vats delivered the vote of thanks.

The seminar was conducted under the guidance of faculty convenor Jaswinder Kaur, and faculty co-convenors Sukhwinder Kaur Virk and Shiva Satish Sharda.
