RRB ALP stage 1 result 2018 - Railways fail to shortlist over 3.7 lakh candidates for second stage

New Delhi, November 5: Railways Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have failed to shortlist the required number of candidates in the RRB ALP first stage examination for appearing in the next stage computer based test. According to the official data released by RRBs post the result declaration of the first stage, a total 5,88,604 candidates have qualified the examination from all 21 RRBs. However, as per RRB officials, around 9,65,565 were to be declared qualified. This means that contrary to the required capping of 9,65,565, the authority falls short of 3,76,961 candidates for the second stage examination. Thus, this figure comes to nearly 39 percent less than the actual required number.

However, going as per the official brochure of RRB ALP 2018, it reads, “ Total number of candidates to be shortlisted for second stage shall be 15 times the community wise total vacancy of ALP and Technician Posts notified against the RRB as per their merit in First Stage CBT.” I t must be noted that for recruitment year 2018-19, the RRBs have declared 64,371 vacancies. So, going by the official capping, 15 times of 64,371 vacancies stands at 9,65,565 candidates, which did not happen in actuality.

Now, such a shortfall of over 3.76 lakh candidates means that in the second stage examination, the level of competition for the test takers has gone down or, in other words, it would be easier for test takers to compete for the recruitment process, as lesser number of candidates would take the exam. Because the number of candidates taking the examination is less, it is highly likely that the cut off of RRB ALP 2018 second stage examination would be low, which means more number of candidates would qualify the examination.

The RRB ALP 2018 first stage examination result data reflects that out of the total qualified, the maximum number of candidates were from Allahabad ( 83,309), followed by Secunderabad (68,796) and Mumbai with 53,074 candidates making it to the cut off of RRB ALP first stage respectively. While Allahabad secured the top spot with maximum number of candidates qualifying the examination, it’s Trivandrum which saw the least number of candidates making it to the cut off of RRB ALP first stage computer based test.

RRB ALP result for the first stage exam was announced on November 2, for 21 regions. The result was announced separately for all RRBs. The second stage examination will be held from December 12 to 14, 2018.
