NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court (SC) has allowed the request filed by the Board of Governors (BoG) in supersession of Medical Council of India (MCI) requesting for extension of due dates related to course applications and PG medical admissions.
The bench comprises Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman, Justice Navin Sinha & Justice B.R. Gavai on June 8, 2020, passed judgement in the favour of MCI, granting permission for extension for PG medical admissions and inspections in super speciality courses and granting permission/renewal/ recognition for MBBS courses in the colleges of India.
As per Indian Legal Live report, while approving the MCI application, the judge panel mentioned that,“Needless to say the AIIMS and the PGI (for the examination held in July) shall also follow 10 the schedule on letter and spirit”. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, MCI regulations could not follow the earlier apex court decision of February 20, 2018, in which the authorities had specified the time deadline for completion of MBBS, PG medical and Super-Speciality admissions in the country.
