NEW DELHI: The Muthoot Finance Limited has announced that it will provide Rs 1 crore scholarships to students of Class 8 and 9 from 788 districts across the country for the financial year 2025-26. The grant aims to provide financial support to meritorious students from economically weaker backgrounds and enhance quality of education in India.
The scholarships were first announced at the Excellence Awards distribution ceremony earlier this week. As part of the CSR initiative, the Muthoot Finance has also granted scholarships worth Rs 43 lakh to over 1,400 students this year, as per the official statement.
Explaining the objective of the scholarship, George Alexander Muthoot, managing director of Muthoot Finance, said: “Education is one of the pillars of our CSR activities, and this initiative is a small contribution towards that commitment. As we pledge Rs 1 crore for the upcoming year, our mission remains to support and uplift meritorious students, ensuring that financial constraints do not stand in the way of their academic aspirations. We look forward to expanding this initiative and empowering millions of students in the years to come.”
Around 10,000 students across the country gained benefit from the Mithoot M George Foundation, after it disbursed more than Rs 3 crore scholarships, the Mithoot Finance stated.
On February 1, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented union budget 2025, where the budget allocation for the National Fellowship and Scholarship for Higher Education of Scheduled Tribe Students has been cut by 99.9%.
