Schools closed, timings changed in several states amid heatwave; Noida, Patna, Odisha, Rajasthan affected

With temperatures ranging between 42°C and 45°C in several regions, severe heatwave conditions across North India have significantly disrupted daily life. Considering the health risks it poses, authorities have taken precautionary measures, including revising school timings and announcing temporary closures to ensure student safety.

Noida school timings have been revised with effect from April 27, 2026. As per the order issued by District Basic Education Officer Rahul Panwar under the direction of the District Magistrate, classes will now be conducted between 7:30 am and 12:30 pm. This order applies to all government, private, aided, and across all boards including CBSE, ICSE, IB, and UP Board, until further notice. Ghaziabad schools already follow the same class timings from Nursery to Class 8.

Dehradun schools closed today

Dehradun schools are closed today following warnings of extremely hot weather and the increased risk of heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke and dehydration. Holiday was declared across all educational institutions from Class 1 to 12, including Anganwadi centres, across government, private, and other recognized institutions. The schools will reopen on April 28.

Patna, Jharkhand, Kota, Odisha School Timings

In Jharkhand, schools operate from 7 am to 11:30 am for KG to Class 8, while Classes 9–12 continue till 12 pm. In Patna, classes up to Grade 5 run till 11:30 am, and Grades 6–8 continue till 12:30 pm. In Madhya Pradesh, both government and private schools function from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Odisha is conducting morning classes from 6:30 am to 10:30 am, and Maharashtra has shifted to early hours, from 7:00 am to 11:15 am. In Rajasthan, schools operate from 7:30 am to 12:00 pm for pre-primary to Class 8 from April 27, while in Kota, timings extend till 12:30 pm following heatwave alerts.

UP summer vacation

As per the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Council’s holiday calendar and previous year trends, summer holidays this year are expected to begin on May 20 and continue until June 15 for council-run and recognized schools. A similar schedule is expected to be followed by Noida and Ghaziabad. In Lucknow, summer vacations are likely to start around mid-May and may extend till the end of June, depending on weather conditions. Authorities will announce the official schedule and may revise it further if the heatwave intensifies.
