NEW DELHI: The Student Federation of India (SFI) protested against the educational policies of the centre during the visit by Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan to inaugurate new buildings at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) campus. Pradhan visited the Hyderabad Central University (HCU) for inaugurating the new Centre for Digital Learning and Training Resources at the School of Physics and the School of Engineering Science and Technology.

The SFI HCU unit alleged that the peaceful protest by the students was obstructed by the police with heavy deployment of the forces. "The students who were peacefully protesting were obstructed by the heavy deployment of police. The Union Minister was forced to meet the protesting students," the SFI-HCU unit tweeted.

Pradhan met with the students who were protesting, and the representatives from SFI and the UoH Students' Union raised various issues related to Hyderabad University and the higher education sector in India. Issues such as land encroachment in the university, National Education Policy (NEP), Central University Entrance Test (CUET), Goods and Service Tax (GST) on education, fee hike, and increase in the fellowship were raised with the minister. They also handed over a memorandum in this regard.
