Sona College’s fashion technology department wins AICTE-CII mentor institution award

Sona College’s fashion technology department can now mentor fashion technology departments of engineering colleges.

NEW DELHI: The Department of Fashion Technology at Sona College of Technology, Salem, has been awarded the prestigious AICTE-CII mentor institution award.

In partnership with Vee Technologies, the department of fashion technology jointly designed and developed seam sealing machines for making PPE kits to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Department of Fashion Technology at Sona College of Technology as a recipient of the award can now mentor fashion technology departments of engineering colleges. The department has won the best industry-linked institute award three times in 2016, 2018 and 2019.

Winning this AICTE-CII 2020 honour showcases Indian engineering prowess, said Chocko Valliappa, vice chairman of the Sona Group. “More than that this was a ‘sangam’ of industry and academia to jointly design and manufacture a product in the true spirit of building Atma Nirbhar Bharat,” he added.
