SRM’s new facility will be inaugurated on April 14 by Andhra Pradesh’s chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, in the presence of the IT minister Nara Lokesh
The SRM University in Andhra Pradesh's Amravati has set up India's first Quantum Reference Facility (QRF) on its campus. The new facility will be inaugurated by Andhra Pradesh’s chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu in the presence of the IT minister Nara Lokesh on April 14.
The initiative is the university’s step to make India a “leading force” in the rapidly growing quantum ecosystem.
According to the official SRM University’s press release, the facility is developed as part of the Amaravati Quantum Reference Facilities (AQRF) under the government of Andhra Pradesh’s Amaravati Quantum Valley programme. It represents India’s first open-access quantum computing platform.
Other guests will also be present alongside ministers, including P Sathyanarayanan, pro-chancellor, and Ch Satish Kumar, vice-chancellor of SRM University AP, Amaravati.
SRM University: A Quantum Leap for India
QRF facility at SRM University is an instrumented hardware testbed that enables real-time validation, benchmarking, and certification of quantum technologies under operational conditions. The initiative makes SRM not merely a participant, but a “national enabler of quantum innovation”.
QRF is a test bed for quantum computer components, which can test up to 100 Qubit quantum processes. The facility is being developed in collaboration with Amaravati Quantum Research Facility and Qubit Force, forming part of a broader dual system architecture – Amaravati 1S and Amaravati 1Q – that highlights India’s growing self-reliant deep-tech infrastructure.
SRM’s QRF Facility: Possibilities Across Sectors
The university’s new facility will offer access to more than just academia, including researchers, startups, and industry, which will accelerate innovation across sectors such as:
- Advanced computing and artificial intelligence
- Defence and secure communications
- Healthcare technologies, including MRI and diagnostics
- Semiconductor manufacturing and deep-tech industries
“Additionally, the facility will play a pivotal role in workforce development, offering hands-on training in quantum hardware—an opportunity rarely accessible even at the global level,” the official SRM University’s press release adds.
“We are proud to inaugurate India’s first Quantum Reference Facility at SRM University-AP, Amaravati—assembled with student involvement, reflecting our commitment to hands-on innovation. This marks the beginning of a larger ecosystem to nurture talent, advance emerging technologies, and realise the vision of a vibrant Quantum Valley for the nation’s future,” the vice-chancellor of SRM University said.
