The commission will conduct the SSC CGL tier-1 exam as a computer-based test (CBT) at 260 centres spread over 129 cities across the country. As per the schedule, the exam will be held from September 12 to 26.
A total of 28,14,604 (28 lakh) candidates have registered for the SSC CGL exam. The exam city intimation slip was issued recently for all registered candidates. Among them, 93% of the candidates have been allotted a centre of their first, second, and third choice.
“The remaining candidates have been allotted centers in nearby places and the average of the distances between the application address and the city in which the centres have been assigned in respect of these candidates is about 168 kilometres,” the commission said.
The commission had earlier scheduled the SSC CGL exams from August 12. However, the SSC CGL exam was postponed due to technical glitches faced by the candidates during the other recruitment exam conducted by the commission.
Following widespread protests against the glitches, server crashes, and distant exam centres, the SSC chairman S Gopalakrishnan assured candidates that issues will be fixed for the CGL exam and that they will be assigned a centre within 100 kilometers of their location.
The SSC CGL phase 1 exam will be held for 14,582 vacancies, of which 6,183 posts are reserved for general, 3,721 for OBC, 2,167 for SC, 1,088 for ST, and 1,423 for EWS category.
