NEW DELHI: The staff association of St. Stephen’s College of the University of Delhi has demanded a committee to provide financial support to students in need. The association has also requested for urgent disbursal of all scholarships, financial aid and bursaries.

After the recent incident of a Lady Shri Ram College student dying by suicide allegedly for financial reasons, some colleges have requested the administration to look into the financial needs of students.

The St. Stephen’s College association has also requested that the college should come out with a notification on its website inviting applications from interested students. “Given the great urgency of the matter, the interviews for these scholarships may be dispensed with and the list of awardees finalised by the committee of heads on the basis of the applications,” reads the letter to the principal, John Varghese.

The letter mentions that some of the faculty members have been receiving requests from students for help with both the payment of fees and also for obtaining devices to attend the online classes.

The letter says: “The Staff Association would like to request you to set up a committee comprising the Heads of all eleven courses taught in college to consider the needs of students for financial support and disburse all scholarships, financial aid and bursaries urgently.”
