NEW DELHI: The British Council has issued a circular providing information regarding five science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programmes. Students looking for options to pursue higher education in education institutions in the United Kingdom can visit the British Council official website, britishcouncil.in.

Some of the STEM and new-age programmes offered by the UK universities includes, artificial intelligence, data science, security science and technology, design engineering and materials science, the council said. The AI courses are designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of AI technologies, their applications, and theoretical foundations, it added.

The council said data science, and security science and technology courses hold significant importance as these contribute towards innovation and safety in various sectors.

Design engineering programmes hold importance due to its central role in addressing complex global challenges while material sciences degree play a vital role in developing materials that have a positive impact on industries, society, and the environment, it added.

STEM courses required in 80% jobs

“According to the National Science Foundation, 80% of jobs in the next decade will require STEM skills, and IBM estimates that STEM careers will offer 24% higher pay and longevity in the future,” the council said.

Presently, the UK ranks third globally for citable research, with 55.2% of UK publications being the result of international research collaborations.

The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. It receives a 15% core funding grant from the UK government.

According to QS Graduate Employability Rankings, four UK universities rank in the top 10 globally, highlighting the quality of higher education in the UK while graduates of these institutes are ranked among the world's most employable, and this is especially true for STEM graduates, the council added,
