Study in Canada: University of Guelph offers scholarship of 2,000 dollars for Indian students

NEW DELHI: University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada has announced a new 2,000 dollars scholarship under “Welcome to Canada President’s Scholarship” to all admitted, undergraduate international students from outside of Canada. The university has been offering admission to Indian students for over a decade now.

The university said that it is expecting the same number of international students with majority hailing from India in the upcoming academic session as well.

President and vice-chancellor Charlotte Yates said: “We believe a diverse and global community enriches the distinct student experience we are known for. This new $2,000 scholarship will be awarded in addition to the University’s International Entrance Scholarships valued between $5,500 and $9,500 that are awarded to international students entering postsecondary studies for the first time in recognition of their outstanding academic achievement.”

Additionally, the university has also announced to provide residence for all years of study for international UG, masters students. International PhD students have guaranteed housing for their first year of study.

The vice-chancellor informed that the Indian students have been showing interest in five major courses namely, Bachelor of Computing: Computer Science, Software Engineering; BA Psychology, Economics; Bachelor of Engineering: Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering; Bachelor of Commerce: Accounting, Marketing Management, Management, Management, Economics and Finance; and Bachelor of Science: Bio-Medical Science, Animal Biology.

The university also hosted other Indian luminaries this past year, including Sanjay Kumar, High Commissioner of India to Canada, and Soumya Swaminathan, former chief scientist of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Highlighting the Canada India Research Centre for Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE) initiative and how many researchers who are studying in India are collaborating with Indian counterparts, Pavneesh Madan, a professor in veterinary medicine at the University of Guelph said: “We have a growing number of partnerships with Indian institutions that catalyze the exchange of ideas and knowledge needed to power critical discoveries, innovations and train the next generation of global thought leaders.”
