NEW DELHI: The University of Strathclyde Glasgow has invited applications for its MSc Quantum Technologies on the official website, strath.ac.uk. Students selected in the one-year MSc programme will be trained in theoretical and practical skills in quantum physics and their applications. The university will start the MSc Quantum Technologies classes in September 2024.

Students applying for the MSc Quantum Technologies should have at least a second-class honours degree, or overseas equivalent, in physics (including maths and physics or theoretical physics). Applicants from an engineering discipline, computer science or engineering physics should have had sufficient exposure to courses in quantum mechanics. They should also have an English language minimum score of 6.0 in IELTS, with no component below 5.5.

Tuition fee

Candidates will have to pay a tuition fee of UK Pound 26,100. The programme has been launched with an aim to skill the students to participate in the second quantum revolution. The university covers a wide range of quantum technologies based on cold atoms, photonic devices and semiconductor structures.

Students selected for the MSC Quantum Technologies will have to undertake one major open-ended research project. They will have to conduct this in one of the research laboratories or in an industrial placement. If students would like to do their research project outside of an academic lab at Strathclyde, the university will work with the students to explore options for an academic or industrial placement, it added.

Scholarships

The Department of Physics MSc Prize will be awarded to a meritorious student of at least distinction level on any MSc course offered by the department. It will be awarded to the student who achieves the highest mark for the MSc Project. International students will be able to apply for the UK Pound 6,000 scholarship.

The university will also support students with qualification in finding a placement with a programme-relevant industrial collaborator in Scotland or the UK but no assurances on obtaining a place can be given. Financial arrangements vary but will cover at least the extra costs involved with the placement.
