Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin distributes free textbooks, uniforms to students

The Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin, inaugurated the distribution of new textbooks, notebooks, uniforms, and other educational materials for government and government-aided school students, in an ongoing effort to improve education. The event was held at Lady Willingdon Government Model Girls Higher Secondary School in Triplicane, Chennai.

According to the official TN statement, for the academic year 2025-26, 4.3 crore textbooks worth over Rs 311 crore, 1.3 crore uniforms worth Rs 457 crore, 9.6 crore notebooks worth Rs 162 crore, and various educational kits worth Rs 211 crore have been arranged.

The state government is implementing various initiatives such as internet access in schools, the chief minister’s breakfast scheme, home base learning programme, ‘Our school, Pride’, foundational literacy and numeracy programmes, ‘Namma School Foundation’, restructuring of the school management committee, and improvement in basic infrastructure including classrooms, smart classrooms, computer lab, model schools, washroom facilities and filling of teaching positions.

Free study materials for students

As part of these initiatives, the state government distributes free study material every year to students, including notebooks, school bags, footwear, shoes, raincoats, woolen sweaters, color pencils, geometry boxes, ankle boots, and geography maps etc.

At today’s event, the chief minister personally handed over educational materials to students and interacted with them. He also visited a smart classroom and observed a live lesson.

Additionally, the other ministers and members of parliament, the legislative assembly, and representatives of local bodies across the state will distribute these study-related materials to school students.

The other dignitaries who attended the event were minister for school education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi; Chennai mayor R Priya; principal secretary, school education department P Chandramohan, IAS; principal secretary, school education department P Chandramohan, IAS; member of parliament Dayanidhi Maran, among others.
