Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin unveils Rs 207.82 crore infrastructure push: 35 colleges to benefit

Start NowIn a major boost to higher education, Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin today inaugurated various infrastructure projects worth Rs 120.02 crore at Queen Mary’s College, Chennai. Additionally, Stalin also laid the foundation stone for new projects worth Rs 207.82 crore for at least 35 colleges.
The chief minister inaugurated a state-of-the-art girls’ hostel at Queen Mary’s College, which was built at a cost of Rs 42 crores. This was a promise made by MK Stalin after several students requested him for a girls hostel during the 2022 convocation ceremony.
The hostel will accommodate 455 students. “The college has been built with all modern facilities, including ten rooms on the ground floor, a seminar room, electric lifts, CCTV cameras, a modern kitchen, a dining hall, and a doctor's room for students to receive necessary medical services,” the officials said.
Rs 120.28 crore fund was also used to construct multiple academic and administrative buildings constructed across government arts and science colleges, engineering colleges, polytechnic colleges, and universities. A foundation stone was also laid for an auditorium within Queen Mary's College campus, to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore from MP P Wilson’s constituency development fund (CDF), the official statement read.
The steps are taken in line with the flagship initiatives implemented by the Tamil Nadu government like ‘Naan Mudhalvan’, ‘Pudumaipen’, and ‘Tamil Puthulvan’, which aims to provide monthly Rs 1,000 scholarship for government school girls, upgrading infrastructure, promoting research and innovation promotion, and supporting students.

Rs 207.82 crore projects to enhance TN colleges
A fund of Rs. 269.52 crore has been allocated under the Perunthalaivar Kamaraj College Development Scheme for the buildings inaugurated today and the buildings for which the foundation stone was laid by the Tamil Nadu chief minister.
In addition to this, a hostel of PG students worth Rs 28.58 has been constructed at the University of Madras, Rs 6.72 crore fund was used for infrastructure projects at Government Polytechnic College, Krishnagiri, and Rs 7 crore worth of classrooms at Government Arts and Science College, Perunavalur.
The approved projects in 35 colleges in Tamil Nadu are given below.
