Tamil Nadu CM unveils Rs 274.46 crore higher education infrastructure projects

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay inaugurated higher education infrastructure projects worth Rs 274.46 crore at the Secretariat today (August 4).The projects, developed under the Higher Education Department, comprise classroom blocks, laboratory buildings, workshop buildings, skill development centre workshops, libraries and e-libraries. It also includes artificial intelligence and data science facilities across government polytechnic colleges, arts and science colleges, engineering colleges, and Thiruvalluvar university.

Inaugurated projects

At Government Polytechnic Colleges across the state, including those in Taramani (Chennai), Chengalpattu, Chromepet, Sevvapet, Sankarapuram, Boomandahalli, Palacode, Kelamangalam, Bargur, Uthangarai, Nagappadi, Udhagamandalam, Perundurai, Tiruchirappalli, Srirangam, Mohanur, Gandarvakottai, Aranthangi, Raghunathapuram, Valangaiman, Sivaganga, Karaikudi, Kottur, Andipatti, Madurai, Ambalakkaranpatti, Usilampatti, Nagercoil, Thoothukudi, Ettayapuram, Madhanur, Cuddalore, Virudhachalam, Paramakudi, Coimbatore, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Karur and Tiruppur, classroom buildings, laboratories, workshops, skill development centre workshops, libraries, e-libraries, and artificial intelligence and data science buildings were constructed at a total cost of Rs 226.98 crore.

At government engineering colleges in Salem and Erode, additional classroom buildings, laboratory facilities and library buildings were constructed at a cost of Rs 6.08 crore.

Government arts and science colleges in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruppur, Sivaganga, Madhanur (Vellore district), Cuddalore, Virudhachalam, Paramakudi (Ramanathapuram district) and Nagercoil (Kanniyakumari district) received new classroom buildings, laboratories and e-library facilities built at a cost of Rs 35.40 crore.

At Thiruvalluvar university in Vellore district, new classroom buildings were constructed for the departments of sociology, environmental science and microbiology at a cost of Rs 6 crore.

Overall, the chief minister inaugurated 51 higher education infrastructure buildings completed at a total cost of Rs 274.46 crore.

The inauguration was attended by minister for rural development and water resources N. Anand, minister for public works and sports development Aadhav Arjuna, minister for higher education P. Viswanathan, chief secretary Dr M. Saikumar, and other dignitaries.
