NEW DELHI: The Telangana High Court in an interim order has allowed 11 private engineering colleges to have more seats in computer science and affiliated courses, Times of India reported. The continuation of these courses is subject to the final court order.

The group of 11 colleges, including Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology, Kesav Memorial Institute of Technology, CMR, VNR, and Vardhaman challenged the regulations of JNTU Hyderabad and state making it mandatory for colleges to take their permission despite getting the nod from the AICTE, according to TOI.

These engineering colleges sought permission to start new courses in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning and data science and cyber security.

125 colleges got permission to start these new courses last year alone.

According to the report, Professor NV Ramana Rao, director of National Institute of Technology, Warangal said that these courses are important for the holistic development of engineering students.

“Dropping these courses is not the best idea. The problem right now is that every course works in silos. That needs to change, and we need to find a way to integrate them like it is done internationally where students are allowed to opt for a mix of traditional and other courses,” TOI quoted him as saying.
