Coming from the Labour Market Research Facility under the School of Management and Labour Studies, the new school builds on TISS’s legacy, focusing on research and policy intervention.
Its academic and research focuses on two key domains: Artificial Intelligence and Society, and Sustainability Transitions.

Some planned initiatives include advanced research labs on AI governance and sustainability metrics, partnerships with public institutions and industry for responsible technology deployment, and the development of open-access data platforms to support evidence-based policymaking.
The school also plans to launch executive education programmes and international collaborations focusing on digital transformation, climate analytics, and urban informality. The announcement comes after the Global Colloquium on “AI, Digital Technologies, and Society”, which was hosted by TISS between May 12 and 15.

With this initiative, TISS reaffirms its commitment to shaping knowledge systems that are not only innovative but also just, inclusive, and grounded in the lived realities of diverse communities,” the press release added.
