In India, legal education is offered in a structured manner. In most cases, after completing school education, one will have to clear an entrance exam for pursuing undergraduate programmes such as BA LLB, BBA LLB, BSc LLB etc. Since there are a number of law entrance exams conducted at the national and state level and some at the university level, it is not easy to identify the right entrance exam for your preferred university. One must be aware of the law entrance exams conducted in India and especially about those that may confirm a seat in top law schools of the country. Therefore, here are some of the top law entrance exams that you may appear after Class 12.
Common Law Admission Test or CLAT 2021
CLAT is considered as the gateway to 22 national law universities who offer a diverse range of law programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. CLAT should be an easy choice for students who want to study integrated LLB after Class 12. India’s some of the top NIRF ranked law universities are part of CLAT Consortium and offers admissions only through the entrance test. At the undergraduate level, one may find various 5-year integrated LLB courses through CLAT such as BA LLB, B.Com LLB, BSc.LLB, BBA LLB and others.
Registration for CLAT 2021 has commenced on January 1, 2021, in online mode. The last date to register for CLAT is March 31, 2021. The CLAT exam will be held on June 13, 2021.
MH CET law for 5-year LLB
The State CET Cell, Maharashtra conducts MH CET law for admissions to 5-year LLB courses offered by the law colleges and universities of Maharashtra. The law schools of Maharashtra offer more than 5000 seats in 5-year integrated LLB programmes. Students from all over the country are eligible to apply for MH CET law which is likely to be conducted in the first week of June.
Symbiosis Law Aptitude Test (SLAT)
Symbiosis International University (SIU) conducts SLAT for admissions to BA LLB and BBA LLB programmes offered by its various law schools. SLAT is a good option for those students who want to study integrated LLB from a good private law school. Through SLAT, the law schools of SIU offer around 900 seats in BA LLB and BBA LLB programmes.
The SLAT 2021 was scheduled to be conducted on May 1. However, to avoid the clash with board exams, the officials will now conduct the test on a new date which is yet to be announced.
AMU BA LLB 2021
One of the oldest university of India, Aligarh Muslim University offers 5-year integrated BA LLB programme. It conducts AMU Entrance Exam ( AMU EE) for the law around the month of April, in offline mode. Students who are looking for admission in a NIRF ranked law university may apply for AMU BA LLB entrance test after completing Class 12.
Punjab University BA LLB entrance exam
Punjab University is well known for its law programmes. It offers BA LLB and BBA LLB programmes in its four law centres. The university offers around 360 seats in 5-year integrated LLB programmes. The entrance exam of PU BA LLB is likely to be conducted after the board exams.
LSAT India 2021
LSAT India is an Indian version of LSAT original. It is conducted by the US-based Law School Admission Council (LSAC). Students who are looking for admission to top private law schools of the country may appear in LSAT-India 2021. The law schools such as Jindal Global Law School, Sonipat, UPES Dehradun, Indore Institute of Law, Indore are some of the popular law schools that will accept LSAT India score.
LSAC has released the application form of LSAT India 2021 on November 10, 2020. The last date to register for LSAT India is April 20, 2021. The admission test will be conducted in remote proctored mode, from May 10 onwards on multiple days and slots.
