NEW DELHI, MAY 14: The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has issued clarification regarding allegations that no action against the identified 80,000 bogus teachers. The Ministry has informed that the regulatory bodies (UGC, AICTE) have been asked to verify the reason for incorrect entries.

During a recent report of the annual survey done by the All India Survey on Higher Education(AISHE) 2017-18, which introduced Aadhaar number verification of teachers as many as 80,000 ghost teachers were identified all over the country.

Union HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar making the announcement then said that a campaign was on to detect the bogus teachers. He added that while some teachers were found using proxies to be enrolled in two colleges, some others were “very active and seen in 3-4 colleges”.

However, more than four months have passed and there has been reports that no action has been taken against the ghost teachers by the Ministry.

The Minister also informed that there will be random data verification to prevent people from furnishing false information from the next year onwards.

MHRD, following such reports in media, has refuted such allegations, it said, “All the 80,000 names have been shared with both AICTE and UGC – the regulators, for taking up with the respective institutions and verify the reasons for incorrect entries. Both the regulators are still on the job since the number of cases is very high. It is also to be clarified that in this case an opportunity is being given to the institutions to rectify mistakes, if any, in showing entries in Aadhaar numbers. This facility has been opened in the AISHE portal for making the corrections.”
