UGC anti-ragging helpline registers ‘mass sexual ragging’ case at Bhilwara medical college

NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) National Anti-Ragging Helpline has registered a complaint after the Society Against Violence in Education (SAVE), an anti-ragging NGO, filed a case detailing mass sexual ragging cases that took place at Rajmata Vijay Raje Scindiya Medical College in Bhilwara, Rajasthan, over the past month.

The complaint registered on the UGC anti-ragging website includes allegations of mass sexual ragging. According to a victim, students were forced to participate in humiliating acts that included licking condoms and guessing the flavour, blowing condoms like balloons, touching classmates inappropriately, stripping, moaning like pornstars and more.

Ragging Case: Bhilwara Medical College

Gaurav Singhal, the anti-ragging activist at the NGO, said that the victim struggled for 45 days to get the complaint registered. Despite the medical college principal writing to the Bhilwara Superintendent of Police (SSP) on 13 November, 2024, the ragging continued.

Singhal added that instead of registering a police complaint within 24 hours, when a fresh mass ragging session was organised, the college was trying to shield the perpetrator.

The victim has complained about 3-4 mass sexual ragging sessions so far that last for about 3-4 hours. The victim has also shared the location where the ragging incidents were held.

Whatsapp screenshots provided by the victim show a student named Divyam organising these mass ragging sessions, the NGO said.

SAVE has taken multiple steps to address the issue, including filing complaints with the UGC Anti Ragging Cell, contacting the SSP of Bhilwara, and reaching out to the President's Secretariat. The NGO is urgently demanding that authorities officially register a police case, take immediate action against the identified perpetrators, and protect the rights and dignity of students.
