UGC asks universities to implement cyber security syllabus of UG, PG in all streams

NEW DELHI: University Grants Commission (UGC) has requested all higher educational institutions to implement the syllabus of Cyber Security course at undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) level. UGC chairman M Jagadesh Kumar launched the Cyber Security syllabus on October 6 as part of Cyber Jagrookta Diwas 2022.

“The syllabus aims to create more aware, responsive and responsible digital citizens, thereby contributing effectively to an overall healthy cyber security posture and ecosystem,” the UGC latest notice read.

Addressing all vice-chancellors and principals of universities, the UGC said: “In view of the importance of cyber security and for propagating cyber hygiene amongst HEIs, you are requested to take necessary steps for implementation of the Syllabus of Cyber Security Course at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level in all the streams of your esteemed University and also in the affiliated / constituent Colleges.”

The UGC Cyber Security course for UG include, introduction to cyber security, cyber crime and cyber law, social media overview and security, e-commerce and digital payments, digital devices security, tools and technologies for cyber security.

The PG cyber security syllabus, which also has 5 modules, covers overview of cyber security, cyber crimes, cyber law, data privacy and data security, cyber security management, compliance and governance.

Cyber security, computer, IT qualified faculty or experts from industry, subject matter experts will be invited to take the lectures, practical and tutorials, the UGC chairman informed earlier.
