NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has sought contributions from institutions and academics for the government’s platform for online learning, SWAYAM.

The UGC has sought “expression of interest” from faculty members and institutions for designing and offering 194 undergraduate (UG) courses from the humanities and social sciences and 155 UG courses from the sciences. The subjects it is seeking courses in include geography, psychology, economics, English, Hindi and Sanskrit for humanities and social science streams. For the science stream, the subjects are chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics, and environmental science.

In developing the MOOCs, the faculty will be able to “improve their academic score for career progression” as well as learn “capacity building by using ICT for teaching-learning purpose”.

In September 2020, UGC had similarly sought “expression of interest” for 171 courses for the humanities and social sciences. The subjects included history, political science, commerce, sociology, public administration and anthropology at the UG level.
