NEW DELHI: The cancellation of UGC NET 2024 June session exam has affected 9 lakh students who participated in the exam held on June 18. In the latest update, ministry of education joint secretary Govind Jaiswal said that the new UGC NET exam date 2024 will be announced soon. Yesterday, the ministry of education cancelled UGC NET June 2024 based on the inputs from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) suggesting irregularities.

In a recent briefing, Govind Jaiswal told ANI: "9 lakh students had participated in the UGC-NET exam that the NTA conducted on June 18... The ministry saw that there was a chance that the examination had been compromised. The ministry has decided to cancel the examination. The next date will be declared soon. The matter has been referred to the CBI..."

The UGC NET re-exam 2024 date will be announced on the official website, ugcnet.nta.ac.in. The exam is held for determining the eligibility for assistant professor and PhD admission and awarding of JRF fellowship. The exam pattern was changed this year to OMR-based pen-and-paper mode. Earlier, the exam was conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode.

Out of 11,21,225 registered candidates, a total of 9.08 candidates took the exam on June 18 by recording 81% attendance. The NTA administered the exam in 1,205 exam centres located in 317 cities across the country.

Meanwhile, several student groups, parents and politicians have called for protest demanding resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan and scrapping of National Testing Agency (NTA). The cancellation sparked outrage as several competitive exams have been reportedly rigged.

In the recent incident, the NEET UG exam 2024, conducted for admission to MBBS courses, was cancelled for 1,563 students who were awarded grace marks to compensate for the loss of time. Moreover, the next Supreme Court hearing on NEET irregularities has been posted on July 8.
