NEW DELHI: Considering the request of candidates to fix the upper age limit to apply for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), the National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided the last date to determine the upper age limit for the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) December 2022 to be January 1, 2022 instead of January 1, 2023. UGC NET December 2022 will be conducted from February 21 to March 10.

“Few representations have been received from the candidates to fix the last date for calculating the age limit to apply for JRF. The NET Bureau of UGC (vide Letter No.4-1/2019(NET/NTA) dated 02 January 2023) has requested NTA to fix the upper age limit for applying for JRF as 01.12.2022 instead of 01.02.2023,” said NTA in an official notification.

“Accordingly, the National Testing Agency has decided the last date for determining the upper age limit for applying JRF is 01.12.2022 for December 2022 UGC-NET,” it added.

Making the changes in UGC NET 2023 information bulletin, NTA informed that candidates should not be more than 30 years of age on January 1, 2022.

Candidates belonging to the categories of Other Backward Classes - Non Creamy Layer (OBC - NCL), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Persons with Disabilities (PwD), third gender as well as women candidates will get an age relaxation of up to five years.

Moreover, candidates with research experience will also get a relaxation given that the research should not have been carried out towards completion of graduation or post graduation degree.

Further, LLM candidates will get a relaxation of three years whereas candidates who have served in the armed forces will get a relaxation of five years. NTA also informed that there is no age limit for assistant professors to apply for the UGC NET exam.
