UGC NET June 2024 application form last date; who is eligible for OMR test?

NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has extended the University Grants Commission - National Eligibility Test (UGC NET 2024) by four days. Candidates seeking Junior Research Fellowship, eligibility for assistant professor and PhD admission 2024 will have to submit the UGC NET application form on the official website, ugcnet.nta.ac.in, by May 19.

The UGC NET registration last date for the June 2024 session has been extended twice now. The correction facility for registered candidates will be made available between May 21 to 23 to make edits in the application form.

For the first time since the NTA has been entrusted to conduct the NET exam in 2018, the testing agency will be holding the UGC NET June exam in OMR format in a single day. UGC chairman Jagadesh Kumar announced the changes in the NTA NET exam earlier.

The candidates with MA Geography with specialization in population studies or mathematics or statistics are also eligible to appear in the subject population studies (Code 015). Those applicants having MA Humanities, including languages and social sciences are eligible to appear in subject women studies (Code 074).

However, paper 1 general paper on teaching and research aptitude is compulsory for all. The NTA will conduct the UGC NET June 2024 for 83 subjects in 360 exam cities across the country.

NTA NET 2024: Eligibility criteria

Before filling the registration form for UGC NET exam 2024, candidates should ensure that they fulfil the eligibility criteria.

  • Candidates belonging to general, unreserved, general-EWS category should have obtained at least 55% marks, without rounding off, in master’s degree or equivalent examination from universities or institutions recognized by UGC. While, Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to non-creamy layer, Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Persons with Disability (PwD), and transgender category candidates should have secured at least 50% marks in the qualifying exam.
  • Candidates who are appearing in the final year exam of masters degree will also be eligible. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and will be considered for award of JRF or eligibility for assistant professor only after they have passed their masters programme with at least 55% and 50% for reserved category.
  • Such candidates will have to complete the masters course within two years from the date of NET result and those applying only for PhD will have to complete within one year.

UGC NET eligibility for PhD, 4-year UG students

  • The PhD degree holders whose completed master by September 19, 1991, irrespective of date of declaration of result, will also be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks, ie. from 55% to 50%.
  • Candidates with PG diploma awarded by Indian university or foreign degree should in their own interest, ascertain the equivalence of their diploma, degree, certificate with master’s degree of recognized Indian universities from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi (www.aiu.ac.in) and for the law students, they have to ascertain their equivalence from Bar Council of India (BCI).
  • Candidates having passed a 4-year or 8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade will be granted to the reserved category candidates, as per the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of PhD Degree) Regulations, 2022
  • Those qualifying in the NET based on a four-year UG degree, will be eligible for the award of the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and for admission to the PhD. However, they will not be eligible for assistant professor posts.
