NEW DELHI: The University of Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a notice to departments of higher education in all states to actively promote the participation of students in courses offered on the SWAYAM platform for the January 2025 session. UGC along with ministry of education (MoE) has achieved a significant milestone in offering flexible and interdisciplinary courses for students on the SWAYAM platform.
As per UGC, over 14,000 massive open online courses (MOOCs) have been offered through the SWAYAM platform. The enrolments in these courses have crossed over 4.8 crore and around 37 lakh SWAYAM certificates have been issued.
Additionally, the state-wise virtual SWAYAM outreach and awareness programme held by the MoE and UGC in October-November 2023 and April-May 2024 played a crucial role in spreading awareness regarding the SWAYAM courses. The SWAYAM outreach programme workshops will begin soon from January to March 2025.
“The state-wise virtual SWAYAM Outreach and awareness programmes organised by the MoE and UGC during October-November 2023 and April-May 2024 played a vital role in expanding awareness and adoption of SWAYAM courses. Taking forward this momentum, we are in the process of conducting region-wise SWAYAM Outreach Workshops scheduled for January to March 2025.” the official UGC notice read.

The UGC is also offering nine courses which provide inter-disciplinary learning opportunities for students. The list of courses is available through the official website at swayam.gov.in/UGC. All institutions are requested to actively participate in the enrolment of students for SWAYAM January 2025 courses offered through the official SWAYAM portal.
As per the NEP 2020 policy, the courses will promote flexibility and learning opportunities for student's holistic education. The courses are aligned with the needs of the students and represent a step forward in facilitating student credit accumulation through the SWAYAM platform.
