Muslim students have urged the university to provide an alternative space to offer Namaz in case Lal Baradari cannot be reopened; also offer a resolution within 15 days.

Muslim students at the University of Lucknow have asked the administration to reopen the prayer hall at Lal Baradari on the campus or provide an alternative space to offer Namaz. In a written appeal to the vice-chancellor, the Lucknow University students have mentioned that this issue has remained unresolved for the past eight months.
Students have asked the university to have discussions with them and find a solution within fifteen days. They have also requested the Lucknow University administration for clear information on the rules and facilities available for religious activities on campus.
The students have also referred to constitutional provisions on equality, non-discrimination and freedom of religion, urging the university to address their concerns through discussions.

According to the appeal, Muslim students currently do not have a designated place to offer Namaz at the university. The students have requested the administration to reopen the existing prayer site at Lal Baradari. If this is not possible due to technical reasons, they have asked the university to identify another suitable location.
The students have referred to Articles 14, 15 and 25 of the Constitution, which deal with equality before the law, protection against discrimination and freedom of religion, respectively.
In their appeal to the vice-chancellor, the students said, translated from Hindi, “Article 51A(e) of the Constitution states that it is the duty of every citizen to promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood amongst all the people of India, transcending all diversities based on religion, language, region, or class.”
The appeal states that the matter should be handled while ensuring that students’ religious rights are respected. The representation was signed by several students.
