University of Sheffield invites applications for MSc in health economics and decision modelling

NEW DELHI: The University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, invites applications for its Master of Science (MSc) in Health Economics and Decision Modelling course for the September 2025 session. The programme is designed for students interested in health economics, healthcare policy, and decision-making.

The MSc programme focuses on evaluating the efficiency, cost-effectiveness and clinical outcomes of healthcare resources – from new drugs and public health initiatives to diagnostic tools and screening programmes. As per the institute, students will gain practical skills in modelling, analysis, and healthcare decision-making.

“Through this course students can develop the theoretical and analytical skills they need for a career in the growing field of health economics. Students will learn how to model, analyse and evaluate healthcare interventions so they can make informed public health decisions,” the official press release said.

Curriculum includes economics concepts related to the healthcare sector, economic evaluations, cost-effectiveness modeling, and health technology assessments. The course also covers medical statistics and evidence synthesis in the context of clinical trials, and how mathematical modelling and simulations inform healthcare decision making.

The one-year full-time MSc programme will also feature research methods training and a three-month research project. Students can conduct studies within external organizations, such as academic units, the NHS, or industry.

University of Sheffield: Eligibility criteria for MSc programme

Candidates should hold a three-year or four-year bachelor's degree with a minimum of 60% from a recognised university in a relevant field with appropriate technical modules or a medical degree.

Degrees in computer science, economics, industrial engineering, management science, operational research, pharmacy, physics, statistics, and systems and control engineering are accepted.

Candidates should also have an overall International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in each component, or an equivalent qualification.

University of Sheffield: Scholarships for MSc programme

The University of Sheffield offers 75 international postgraduate taught merit scholarships for the 2025 entry, each worth 10,000 pounds towards the original tuition fee for a postgraduate taught programme starting in September 2025.

These scholarships are competitive and available to all new international students who meet the eligibility criteria. The deadline for scholarship applications is 1 pm (United Kingdom time) on Monday, May 12, 2025.
