NEW DELHI: With one day left until the first phase of UP Elections 2022, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has promised free education for girls from Kindergarten (KG) to Postgraduate (PG), more seats in universities and an increase in education budget by 6% if voted to power.

The Party released its manifesto or “sankalp patra” for the UP assembly polls 2022 on Tuesday just after BJP.

The key promises of SP include free education for girls, 6% increase in education budget, 30% quota for women in government jobs, increase in Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) by 50% in secondary education and 100% in higher education, student credit card with Rs 5,000 balance, laptops for students passing Class 12, doubling of seats in universities, gramin coaching centres for competitive exams, free student bus pass etc.

UP Assembly Polls 2022: SP Manifesto Highlights

School Education

  • 100 percent literacy in UP by 2027, focus on girl child education.
  • Free education for girls from KG to PG.
  • GER to be increased 50 % in higher and 100% in secondary education.
  • Prayagraj to be converted into a 'model education city'.
  • Education budget to be increased to 6%
  • English to be made mandatory from Class 1
  • As per state education policy, education in English will be focused upon to boost economic development. Plus, education in regional language will be given to strengthen regional identity.
  • Student credit card with Rs 5000 balance. Urban universal school voucher system: Every student will get Rs 500 per month (6,000 every year) through DBT
  • Laptops for all students clearing their Class 12 boards.
  • Samajwadi residential school in every district

Higher Education

  • State Research Fund to be established for PhD students in higher education institutions
  • Seats in universities to be doubled
  • Technical and vocational institutes to be set up in every district
  • Gramin coaching hubs for competitive exams
  • Free student bus pass
  • Student hostels in major cities
  • Dedicated bus service for universities and colleges
  • Scholarship for students who get admission in national and international universities
  • Skill and personality development centres to be set up, especially for female students. Every year, five lakh youngsters to be enrolled in skill and personality development programme

Others

  • Salary of Shiksha Mitra to be increased by Rs 5,000 and proper government employment within three years
  • Heritage institute scheme to refurbish schools, colleges, and educational institutions older than 50 years.
