New Delhi, June 2: Union Public Service Commission conducted the UPSC 2019 Civil Services prelims exam today on June 2. The exam was held for two papers - paper I and II at various centres across the country. Paper 1 was conducted from 9:30 am while Paper 2 was held from 2: 30 pm.

Candidates who did not carry their UPSC CSE admit card and valid photo identities along with them were not permitted in the exam halls. The exam was conducted in offline mode. Candidates were provided OMR sheets to fill in their answers. There were 2 qualifying papers - General Studies 1 and General Studies 2. Both papers had 200 questions that carried 200 marks each. There will be a negative marking of one third mark for each wrong answer. Candidates were given 2 hours to attempt both paper 1 and paper 2.
The UPSC Civil Services result 2019 for the prelims exam is expected to be declared in the month of July. The cut off of UPSC CSE prelims exam will be released along with the result. Meanwhile the candidates can do a self evaluation by checking the answer keys that are released by several coaching institutes.
The candidates who qualify UPSC Civil Services prelims exam will be eligible to appear for the mains exam. And those candidates who qualify UPSC Civil Services mains exam will be appearing for a personality test. UPSC Civil Services exam is conducted for the recruitment of candidates for Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service and Central Services Group A and Group B.
UPSC has announced a total of 896 vacancies for UPSC CSE 2019. The number of candidates who will qualify the UPSC CSE prelims will be 12 or 13 times the number of vacancies. The next stage of the exam - UPSC CSE mains exam will be conducted on September 20, 2019.
