Download EBookNEW DELHI: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced that it will hold the preliminary UPSC Civil Service Examination (UPSC CSE 2025) on May 25. The UPSC CSE registration process has begun today. IAS aspirants will have to submit the UPSC application form by February 11 to be considered eligible for the exam.

The commission has announced approximately 979 vacancies for the UPSC CSE preliminary exam 2025, of which 38 posts are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) category, as per the UPSC notification 2025.
The civil services examination will consist of two successive stages - preliminary exam and mains exam. Those candidates who qualify for the UPSC Mains exam will be called for a personality test for final selection.
As per the UPSC age limit for civil service exam 2025, “A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on the 1st of August, 2025 i.e., the candidate must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1993 and not later than 1st August, 2004.”
Every candidate appearing for the UPSC CSE exam will be permitted six attempts. However, those belonging to OBC and PwD categories will be allowed nine attempts, and SC, ST do not have a cap on the number of attempts in UPSC CSE.

UPSC CSE Exam Calendar 2025
The commission informed candidates that the correction facility for candidates who have registered for the preliminary examination will be made available from February 12 to 18.
The Civil Services preliminary exam will consist of two papers of objective type questions carrying a maximum of 400 marks.
