NEW DELHI: The Centre told the Supreme Court on February 9 that it is not willing to grant any relaxation in age limit to the UPSC IAS aspirants who had exhausted their last attempt in 2020. The Centre has taken a U-turn on its earlier stand in the matter where it had agreed to give one last chance to UPSC civil services aspirants who had exhausted their attempts in 2020 due to the pandemic.

The Centre told this to a bench headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar which reserved its verdict on a plea that sought one more chance for aspirants who missed due to pandemic.

Additional Solicitor General S V Raju, appearing for the Centre, said that initially the government was not willing to concede the extra chance and it was later done at the suggestion of the bench, PTI reported.

“This is not the exam where you prepare at the last minutes. People prepare for years together,” Raju told the bench, as per the report, adding, “My first offer remains”.

The SC has reserved the verdict on the plea filed by UPSC civil services aspirants.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is expected to release the UPSC notification 2021 today on February 10. Along with the UPSC IAS application form 2021 on its official website - upsc.gov.in. Submission of IAS application form 2021 last date is March 2, 2021.
