Uttarakhand: Chamoli schools, Anganwadi centres to remain closed on August 25 following IMD rain warning

Amid a rainfall alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Chamoli district administration has ordered the closure of all schools and Anganwadi centres tomorrow, August 25. The step has been taken in view of the forecast of rainfall in parts of Uttarakhand, including Chamoli district.

The administration has taken this precautionary step to ensure the safety of children. As per the order, all government, non-government, and private schools from classes 1 to 12 and all Anganwadi centres will remain closed for the day.

“In view of the forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department, Meteorological Centre Dehradun, and keeping in mind the safety of students, all government, non-government, and private schools (classes 1 to 12) as well as Anganwadi centres in the district will remain closed on 25.08.2025,” the official notice said.

According to the Meteorological Centre in Dehradun, many parts of Uttarakhand, including Chamoli, are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall on August 25. The forecast also indicates the possibility of extremely heavy spells of rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas.

Uttarakhand Rain Alert: Administrative measures

The notice further directed the chief education officer of Chamoli to ensure that the order is strictly implemented across all schools, while the district programme officer (Child Development) has been instructed to enforce the same across all Anganwadi centres.

Uttarakhand has been experiencing continuous spells of monsoon rains over the past few days, leading to incidents of landslides and disruption of road connectivity in several hilly regions. The IMD has repeatedly issued warnings of heavy rainfall, urging residents of sensitive districts to remain alert.

Recently, the administration of Pithoragarh district in Uttarakhand announced the closure of all schools and Anganwadi centres on August 23, 2025, following a weather warning issued by the IMD, Dehradun.
