NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 26: Western Sydney University has launched the Bachelor of Cyber Security and Behaviour to address the global skills shortage in cyber security and intelligence.

Forbes forecasts 3.5 million unfilled positions in the industry by 2021. Last year, India emerged as the third most vulnerable country to cyber threats, behind the US and China.

The future of cyber security relies on people able to think quickly, find innovative solutions, and work to keep the data of companies, nations and individuals secure. Western Sydney University’s Bachelor of Cyber Security and Behaviour is the first cyber security degree in Australia and the Asia Pacific region that analyses both the technical and human side, giving students a competitive edge in a digital world.

The interdisciplinary course applies psychological theory and research to decision-making, human errors, social influence, organisational cultures and vulnerable populations, alongside training in computer and network security – the combination of skills needed to protect data against cyberattacks.

With a focus on hands-on learning led by industry experts, students develop programming and hacking skills and build an understanding of usable security and privacy by design.

In the final year, students can undertake a research project or an embedded industry placement leading to industry certifications.

Graduates will be employed in fields such as data and security analysis, risk management, ethical hacking, cyber security and intelligence and digital forensics.

The three-year, full-time program accepts students with GPA of 60 percent in best four core subjects in CBSE or ISC and a GPA of 70 percent in best four core subjects in HSC (State Boards). Scholarship opportunities, from $5,000 to $10,000 are available to international students.
