Winter Vacation: Delhi, Rajasthan, UP, Punjab, Jammu schools closed due to cold wave; state-wise updates

Winter Vacation in Schools: The states in the North region have announced winter vacation for schools starting from January 1 till January 15, 2025.
NEW DELHI : Due to dropping temperatures in the North region, states have announced winter vacation for schools starting from January 1 till January 15, 2025. Most of the schools were closed right after Christmas, due to the forecast of heavy rainfall.
During the winter break, students can spend time with their families and also prepare for the studies ahead.
Talking about the cold weather and due to the cyclonic storm around Punjab, an orange alert has been issued in the state amidst the cold wave. Punjab has now extended the winter holidays. Earlier, the holidays were announced till December 31, which has now been extended, the News 18 reports.
The Directorate of Education (DoE) Delhi announced winter break for all government schools beginning from January 1, 2025. The national capita’s maximum temperature settled at 15 degrees Celsius, 5.4 degrees below the normal, according to reports.
Schools in Ghaziabad were shut amidst the heavy rainfall on December 30.
The Directorate of Education mentioned in its circular: "Winter holidays are declared in all the schools of the state from January 1 to 15, 2025. Schools will be reopened as usual from January 16, 2025.
Winter break in UP schools was also announced, starting from December 31 till January 15, 2025. The physical classes will begin on January 16, as per the latest updates.
Winter vacation in Delhi schools
DoE also announced remedial Classes for students studying in 9 to 12 , to help them improve their academic performance during the 10-day winter break. The DoE also asked schools to inform students and parents about the remedial class in advance through SMC meetings, student diaries, or SMS facilities. Students are advised to attend the remedial classes in proper school uniforms.

Winter vacation in Haryana schools
The Haryana government ordered the winter vacation in schools from January 1 to January 15, 2025, via social media. All the schools will reopen from January 16, 2025. “The Haryana Education Department has issued orders that all schools in the state will have winter vacations from January 1 to January 15. The schools will reopen on January 16, 2025,” the department of Public Relations posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Jammu and Kashmir announced winter vacations till February 28
The Jammu and Kashmir government announced winter vacation for schools in the valley and winter zones areas of the Jammu division from December 10. The minister for school education Sakina Masood Itoo announced the decision on X (formerly Twitter) by sharing an order through the school education department.
According to the official order, the winter vacation for students till Class 5 in the Valley and winter zone areas of the Jammu division will be observed from December 10 to February 28 next year and for all Classes from 5 to 12, the winter vacation began on December 16 and will continue till February 28, 2025. Winter vacation in Rajasthan till January 5
The Rajasthan government announced the winter vacation for all schools starting from December 25 till January 5, 2025. The Rajasthan education minister Madan Dilawar announced this on X (formerly Twitter) in a Hindi post saying: “According to the warning issued by the Meteorological Department of Rajasthan state, there is a possibility of a significant increase in the intensity of cold wave in the state from December 24. Keeping this situation in mind, the Education Department of the State Government has decided according to the Academic Almanac that this year's winter vacation will be from December 25 to January 5.”
