NEW DELHI: Yogesh Singh will take over as the new vice-chancellor of Delhi University today at 3 pm. It was on Wednesday that the Lt Governor Anil Baijal approved relieving of Delhi Technological University (DTU) vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh to enable him to take charge as the VC of Delhi University.

Singh, 55, was appointed as 23rd Vice Chancellor of Delhi University in September. He will succeed Yogesh Tyagi, who was suspended last October over allegations of irregularities and dereliction of duty. PC Joshi has been holding charge of the top post since then.

This is the fifth time Singh has been appointed to the Vice-Chancellor's post.

Yogesh Singh has served as a dean in Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University from 2001 to 2006. he was appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in 2011. In 2014, he joined as the director of Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology in Delhi before starting his tenure as the Vice Chancellor of DTU in 2015.

Singh is an NIT Kurukshetra alumnus and holds MTech and PhD degrees in computer science. He was reappointed as DTU VC for a second term in April this year. He has served as Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (2011-14) where he was also reappointed for a second term.
