NEW DELHI: The Bar Council of India (BCI) will conduct the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) 2020 exam on January 24. When appearing in the exam, and especially given the pandemic situation, one ought to know the dos and don'ts so that the exam day is a breeze. For example, given the AIBE is an open-book exam, one must have a select set of textbooks and notebooks which to carry to the exam hall. Also, important is to decide which topics need that last minute polishing. As for COVID-related protocols, the BCI has already released a SOP that all involved in the exam need to follow.

AIBE-exam day guidelines - General

  • Before you leave home, make sure that you have the AIBE XV admit card and a valid id proof with you.

  • Reach the exam centre as per the reporting time mentioned in the AIBE admit card.

  • Late comers may not be allowed entry inside the AIBE exam centre. To avoid getting late, the candidate should check the exam-centre beforehand and start early.

  • Dress in comfortable clothes.

  • The AIBE is an open-book exam. So, set aside the books you plan to take with you to the exam centre.

  • Given the exam will be conducted in pen and paper mode, do carry a ball-point pen; the color can be either black or blue).

  • Don’t carry jewelry or electronic gadgets with you inside the exam hall.

  • Also, exam officials may or may not make arrangements for a baggage counter. So, it is a good idea not to carry unwanted baggage.

  • Don’t start reading some new topics, as apart from creating doubts just before the start of the exam, it will achieve precious little. Rather do a quick revision of all the important topics.

  • When answering questions, focus on the easy ones first, then move on to the medium, and finally difficult questions.

  • Don’t get stuck with a question; if you can’t answer a question after say one or two attempts, leave it. Move on the next question. If you have time left, you can come back and retry the difficult question.

COVID-19 related SOPs to be followed by candidates:

  • Follow the instructions and guidelines given by exam officials.

  • If there are restrictions on movement in any location, the candidate can use the AIBE admit card as a travel pass and appear in the AIBE examination.

  • All candidates are required to submit a self-declaration form with regard to their health at the exam centre. The declaration form would be attached to the admit card.

  • Once at AIBE test centre, cooperate with officials who may do a temperature check.

  • Maintain social distancing and follow any other COVID-safety protocols.

  • Wear a mask at all times. Also, use sanitizers provided at the exam centre.

  • Download the Argoya Setu App on the mobile phone; it is mandatory.

  • Ensure cleanliness and hygiene.

  • Follow proper signage, symbols. As per the SOP, exam officials are required to display posture at appropriate places for maintaining social distancing.

  • Any candidate who shows symptoms of fever, cough, and cold, he or she would be either made to sit in a separate room or barred from taking the examination.

  • Avoid crowding the entry and exit gates.

AIBE is a certification exam conducted by the BCI for law graduates (both 3-year LLB and 5-year integrated LLB degree holders). Those who qualify in the exam are issued Certificate of Practice (COP), which is a permit to practice law in courts across the country.
