NEW DELHI: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) plans to increase the number of internship opportunities it creates for students of technical education to one crore by 2025. On the third ‘Internship Day’ on August 25, the regulator for technical education launched 6.1 lakh internship opportunities.

The ‘Internship Day’ initiative was started by AICTE three years ago. The positions are listed under different categories and by city on the AICTE website. Students can check the official website of AICTE for further details.

The students need to register themselves on the official website before applying for an internship. Details students need to fill in while registering themselves include, name of the institution, whether it's affiliated to AICTE or not. student id, name of the student, Email ID and city name.

Buddha Chandrasekhar, National Education Alliance for Technology (NEAT), COO, AICTE said, “that this internship program will include students from rural, urban and tribal areas...Even though these opportunities are available in cities, we aim to provide the same opportunities for students in rural and tribal areas. Under this program, we are providing internship programs for students in various sectors of technology. We wish to create a skill-based, not just a knowledge-oriented society.”

AICTE chairman Anil Sahasrabudhe said: "Last year, 5 lakh internships were conducted, and this year, it could be more again. We are adding 6.1 lakh internships in a single day, which means whatever we reached in one year, we are achieving the milestone in a very single day. By 2025 AICTE has set up plans to have one crore internships"

AICTE Member Secretary, Rajive Kumar said, "AICTE aims to create a skill-based society, and internships like these can be considered as a crucial step for students to achieve their goals. Education is not just about learning, and it will be complete only if students get a real-time opportunity to reskill their talents and traits."
