NEW DELHI: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) said that the norms for admissions into the B Arch programmes in the country will be decided by the Council of Architecture (CoA). As per various media reports, the member secretary of AICTE, Rajive Kumar issued a correction to the earlier notification listing the eligibility criteria for architecture courses.

Last year's notification from CoA mandates physics, chemistry and mathematics as required subjects for Class 12 for seeking admission to BArch courses. AICTE had earlier said that physics, chemistry and mathematics are not necessary to be eligible to apply for admission to architecture courses as the handbook released by AICTE had not mentioned the mandatory requirement of physics, chemistry and mathematics for admission to architecture courses.

Courses such as fashion technology and packaging technology do not mandatorily require students to study physics, chemistry and maths subjects in Class 12. AICTE had announced in the previous year that students without physics, chemistry or maths in Class 12 can seek admission to engineering and technology programmes.

According to AICTE, two supernumerary seats will be reserved for Covid-orphaned children for each course under the 'PM CARES' scheme in all affiliated polytechnic institutions from 2022-23 academic year onwards.
