AIIMS Nagpur intern dies by suicide in hostel room

A 22-year-old intern at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Nagpur allegedly died by suicide in his hostel room. Sanket Panditrao Dabhade, who hailed from Jintur in Parbhani district, was found in his bathroom at AIIMS hostel on Sunday, a police official from Sonegaon said.

The student was residing in Room Number 909 at Charak Hostel of AIIMS Nagpur. Dabhade had completed Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and was interning at AIIMS.

According to the police official, his friends reported that they last saw him on Saturday night and grew suspicious when he did not come out of his room the next day.

His friends informed the hostel warden, who opened the room and found Dabhade's body. However, no suicide note was found at the scene.

A case has been registered of accidental death, and the student's mobile phone has been seized for further probe, a police official said.

As per Nagpur Today media reports, the student belonged to a family involved in the field of education. His father is a school teacher, and his sister is a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BAM) doctor.

Recently, in May, a 19-year-old AIIMS Bhopal student died by suicide citing academic stress. Utkarsh M Shingne, the student, belonged to Maharashtra's Beed district. A suicide note was found, wherein a change in curriculum, class attendance, and academic stress was the primary reason cited. With inputs from PTI
