Explaining the distress of hundreds of doctors currently serving in the national capital, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Resident Doctors’ Association (AIIMS RDA) has urged the Delhi government to either operationalise the stalled Delhi Medical Council (DMC) or provide a provisional registration mechanism.

The doctors’ association highlighted that due to the current non-functioning of the DMC, the majority of doctors working in AIIMS, VMMC, Safdarjung Hospital, MAMC, LHMC, and several other hospitals across Delhi are unable to obtain their DMC registration, according to the official letter by AIIMS RDA to Rekha Gupta, chief minister of Delhi.

“This situation has created significant administrative and professional challenges. Many doctors who have come from different parts of the country to serve in Delhi are unable to complete the mandatory registration process, which has in turn led to delays in salary disbursals, processing of appointment formalities, and difficulties in continuing their duties legally within the state,” the AIIMS RDA said.

The association also said that doctors play a crucial role in maintaining the functioning of Delhi’s healthcare system, particularly in government and tertiary care hospitals. Therefore, it has urged the Delhi CM, health minister to take urgent steps to resolve the issue.

“We trust that your esteemed offices will take prompt action to restore the functioning of the Delhi Medical Council and ensure that medical professionals can continue their duties without administrative hindrance,” it added.

The DMC registration certificate is mandatory for doctors to serve in Delhi. It is required for processing of appointment formalities, salary disbursals, and for continuing medical duties legally within the state.
