Allahabad University asks students to end protest following ‘assault’ on MA student

NEW DELHI: The Allahabad University (AU) has asked the students to end the protest, which started following an alleged assault on a Master of Arts first year student. The AU administration said the university vice-chancellor has taken cognizance of the issue and he will hear the allegation regarding the proctorial board and chief proctor.

The AU statement also added that the VC will also look into the allegation raised by former assistant superintendent against the student. The SU in its X account said, “The ongoing agitation on the student issue should be ended. Vice-chancellor has taken cognizance of the student's case. After his arrival, this matter will be immediately considered and injustice will not be done to any student.”

Both the parties have been given the opportunity to present their side and facts, the university administration added. Allahabad University students started a protest on Monday following a video that went viral on social media where some persons can be heard using abusive language against an individual.

It is being alleged that persons using abusive language are members of the proctorial board, including the AU chief proctor Rakesh Singh. The MA student who has been assaulted is allegedly Abhiskek Gupta. The students can also be heard crying. The protestors are demanding removal of chief proctor Rakesh Singh and assistant proctors Mritunjay Rao Parmar, Atul Narayana Singh and Vivek Kumar Diwedi.

The protesters today shared a video on X alleging that the mattresses and blankets that the students were using during the protest outside the AU entry gate were thrown by the security guards across the four-lane road. The video was shared by X user Manish Pal.
