Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham launches 6 online degree programmes
The list of programmes includes MBA and three streams of MCA. The university is also launching a certificate course on Mahabharata.
NEW DELHI: Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has launched full-fledged online degree programmes in management and computer application. It is launching BBA, MBA, BCA, MCA, MCA in artificial intelligence and MCA in cybersecurity degree courses in online mode. The university has also started a six-week certificate program on Mahabharata, it announced in a statement.
The University Grants Commission greenlit online degrees and issued regulations in 2020. The regulations allowed institutions in the top hundred ranks of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).
Those regulations were relaxed in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, to allow more universities to offer these courses. According to the budget 2021 documents released on February 1, the relaxations will allow roughly 239 institutions to offer online degree programmes.
The online programmes have been clubbed together under the “Amrita AHEAD” brand and according to the university, the online degree is equivalent to the university’s on-campus degrees.
P. Venkat Rangan, vice-chancellor of the university said: “The Amrita AHEAD online programs help solve the problem of equity and accessibility in higher education. Students can study from the comfort of their homes at their own pace in a world-class learning environment that includes faculty from India and abroad. The online degrees are equivalent to our on-campus degrees, offering the same academic and career opportunities to our online students as available to students studying at our physical campus.”
