NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 12: The Aligarh Mulsim University (AMU) administration has issued dress-code for students, with a list of basic traditions to be followed. The University has asked students to wear Black Sherwani, Kurta Pajama during important occasions and university functions.

The new rules have certainly raised some eyebrows with a section of AMU community calling it unnecessary meddling with private affairs of students. The varsity has banned bermudas, shorts and slippers outside hostel room.

One of the second year B.Tech students who did not wish to be named said, “we have several problems in our hostels and we have been repeatedly complaining about them, the AMU administration rather than addressing those issues are coming with such irrelevant diktats.”

AMUAMU Provost in his letter has asked all freshers of Sir Shah Sulaiman (SHS) hall to dress formally either in black sherwanis or shirts-trousers and formal shoes.

Dr Sadaf Zaidi in his letter has mentioned that freshers indulge in activities which are "anathema" to the residential life of the AMU.

The letter reads, “While any ignorance in this regard is very painful for the seniors as well as for the hall administration, it is also undesirable for the freshers as they lose out on a chance to imbibe some good habits.”
