Anna University, GUVI to train engineering students in generative AI; over 82,500 students participate

NEW DELHI: Anna University partnered with GUVI, to launch the ‘Naan Mudhalvan - Anna University - GUVI Tamil Nadu Coder's Premier League’ (NM-AU-TNcpl) hackathon. The initiative aimed to train engineering students in Tamil Nadu by providing training in coding through a series of hackathons conducted across the state.

According to the official press release, the grand finale, of this hackathon was conducted at the Madras Institute of Technology on April 12, 2024. Over 82,688 students from 400 engineering colleges across Tamil Nadu, participated in this NM-AU-TNcpl initiative.

This initiative was taken up in partnership with ‘Naan Mudhalvan’ initiative of the government of Tamil Nadu, Anna University and Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC). The sports minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru Udhyanidhi Stalin, launched the initiative in February 2024.

A team comprised entirely of women clinched the top prize. Among the 45 colleges involved, there were five government institutions, nine affiliated with Anna University, and 26 autonomous colleges. Additionally, women constituted 53 per cent of the total participants.

Madras Institute of Technology for their 'Dynamic Event Planner' securing first place, and Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering for 'News Sphere', clinching second position. Adhiyamaan College of Engineering, KS Rangasamy College of Technology, and Kongunadu Engineering College, shared the third position with projects like 'Smart Tutor Chatbot' and 'AI-Based Language Learning'. Cash prizes and certificates were awarded to the top 20 teams, including the winners.

Highlighting the impact of this event, founder of GUVI M Arun Prakash, said, “We have used generative AI to impact the colleges from tier 2 and tier 3 cities, we always aim to look ahead to new trends and ways to help people learn better.”
